Tower Ridge - Saturday 18th November 2006

A nice easy snow plod into the CIC Hut where a quick chat about Rjukan soon got us in the mood for one of Britain's best scrambles.

We decided to go round the Douglas boulder and go up the Eastern gully to gain the Douglas Gap. Deep snow was a telling sign of how the day was going to be.

Turns out when its cold its possible to make really stupid faces (Chris!) - Good job the wind didn't change direction.

The ridge has some good scrambling but with loads of snow on its hard to find the holds.

After the ledge traverse and a crawl under a chock stone we decided the guide book's 10 hr estimate in bad conditions would be about right but 6hrs into the climb we'd have enough. We escaped by getting ourselves back onto the Eastern Traverse and down to Tower Gully. A scramble down the longest gully ever eventually brought us back to the CIC Hut.

A change of finish point meant some interesting telephone calls to find out where we were, but we were back at the Alex Macintyre Lodge by 2100 eating Nell's delicious dinner.
