cling to it like some rabid parasite

leap wildly in its general direction

do it kind of like a bonking walrus

wedge yourself solidly into a crack, and wiggle up using a kind of macro-capillary-action unknown to science

Please note that these really are the techniques that you will need to climb a lot of these rocks. Specially a mastery of the Walrus-bonk is essential. There is no other plausible way to climb the Back Tor Mushroom, you simply get what run-up you can, leap as high as possible up onto it, and, a bit like that old pub sport with a trampoline and velcro suits, sprawl across its rounded sides, trusting the gritstone-friction to keep you there. There are no holds, so limbs are not a lot of help and the only known way upwards from this position is the walrus bonk, a kind of stomach-lead lurch upwards to the next sprawl position, repeated till the rock flatens out on top.
