Pineappleing 06: Saturday 9th December 2006

This years Christmas Dinner had a number of members up for going to the Pineapples, curious about their existence as well as wanting to build up an appetite for the meal Steve was preparing.

The troops (Damian, Martin, Gerard, Vince, Laura, Maria, Mark, Cat, Jack, Philippa (MPS), Nick, Fabian, Matt Suddards and Bas (NIPS)) headed to Edale in four tanks and parked up in Upper Booth. The Pineapple map and photos of the Pineapples had not made it on the trip and so some guess work as to where the Pineapples were and what lumps of rock they were was going to be needed.

By 12:30 the cloud had risen and the grid reference for the lumps of rock Chris Drew had given us was upon us. With a distinct chill in the air a number of the team decided it was lunch time. Vince, Gerard, Jack, Mark and Damian thought that they had arrived at Wet and Slimy crack only to find that it was not, the rock was a good warm up nonetheless.

Vince spotted what looked like a puddle with the Slimy Pineapple in it. Yes we had found:

Wet and Slimy Crack. Martin was soon in the puddle splashing about trying to wedge himself in the crack, Vince was in there straight after and with little faffing topped out on the first Pineapple of the day. Soon after Damian, Mark and Gerard followed (all MPS) and then holding it up for NIPS Matt squirmed his way into the slim and made it up.

Non competitive tally so far MPS 4: NIPS 1.

After a brief hail storm we headed over to what was thought could be the Inaccessible Pineapple. After lots of struggling Vince was able to mount the rock and summit. The manner in which he humped his way up then made us think that this must have been (and infact was):

Lurve Rock.

Non competitive tally result MPS 5: NIPS 1.

With Vince the only person to do two Pineapples he was later awarded a pineapple for his efforts.

A quick descent back to the cars even allowed time for Matt to develop a new MPS game of mud wrestling which ended up in a bit of a gooey situation!
