MPS Climbing Adventures
Climbing-Related Adventures with MPS
As mountaineers, basic climbing skills allow us to try more daring routes, so we occasionally go climbing to improve our skills and techniques, and it is great fun anyway!
Nottingham Indoor Climbing Wall
Indoor wall website
Trips to the wall are quite informal but are there are often members there on a Wednesday evening. If not, trips will be organised by email, MPS facebook group or at a social - if you miss out and want someone to go with, then just email someone on the committee.
Getting to the Climbing Wall couldn't be simpler, as the number 50 bus goes from the stop near Mooch, to within a 5 minute walk to the Wall.
Here are two map links to help you find your way:
There is nothing like the real thing however, so we love to go out to the peak district when we get the chance. Being outdoors is more exciting as the weather conditions, rock type and gear placements available affect both the physical and mental difficulty of the climb.
Like going to the indoor wall, these trips are informally arranged at socials or via the MPS facebook group. Occasionally the club will organize day trips to the peak district. If you want to get involved and go climbing outdoors then speak to someone on the committee.
The Mountaineering (rock climbing) club, UNUMC specialize in all aspects of technical rock climbing. A number of us are also involved in UNUMC.
If you want to look up what we climbed in the Peaks, Rockfax and UKC have it all.
The Terrace Wall
Also in the summer the Terrace Wall down by the lake on campus is a great place to climb for free on those hot summer days. See the UNUMC guide for ideas on routes.
