Tash Hut (SAC) 2701mPretty busy on weekendsGet a Alpuhbel taxi to Ottovan (10CHF each) then 1hr walkWater dribble out of pipe (clean enough to drink), tables outside to cook on. If it hails/snows the guardian may let you cook in the porch.Lots of very small beds upstairsBMC AcceptedSmelly with pissor at the side of the sit ons.
Schonbiel Hut (CAS) 2694mFairly Quiet but gets Tour du Mont Blanc groupsGet the first cable car (7 CHF) on the Klein Matterhorn (to Furi) then it’s a 3.5 hr walk along fairly dull hydropaths. Amazing views of Matterhorn though.Very good water fountain outside hut. Pretty windy so take stove shield. 21.50 CHF for self catering. Tables outside but no indoor cooking facilities – there is a sink though. One room for eating spaces for 50.Very small beds in lots of rooms and difficult to tell whos is who.BMC AcceptedVery good, but built quite high off ground.
Rothorn Hut (SAC) 3198mBusy when routes in good nickFrom train station walk all the way through the town then turn right when you reach a typical pub on the left and the street narrows – up a steep path. 40 mins to little café, then 1hr20 to Trift Hut. 2 hrs from there to Rothorn.Sink inside water drinkable. No indoor cooking at all. There is a wall to cook behind but it’s not great. Hut has great food so it’s almost worth buying it. 21 CHF for self catering.Beds downstairs and on top floor. Downstairs is for self caterers as it’s really cold.BMC AcceptedWorst been to yet – stinks with wee on the floor. Also watch the very low beam as you come out of toilet.
Trift HutQuietAs per Rothorn but can get to it with a 3.5hr walk from Schonbiel Hut.Water can be got from toilet round the back if it’s unlocked. One can buy food for a snack on way to Rothorn – very good but expensive. Not slept there?Very good but not always open.
